My visit to the Orakei Marae.

At the Orakei Marae I saw Whaea Celeste and Matua the caretakers of the marae and a huge waka and a beautiful pukeko outside.

I learned that the marae has body parts like the tekoteko is the head of the marae. The marae has 2 arms coming down and A spine, ribs and heart. I also learned how to do the poi and a stick dance. We experienced a powhiri. Some songs we learned were "E papa wai" and "Tutiro mai nga iwi". Whaea Celeste and Matua split us up and the boys went to learn a haka.

I was happy because I saw a marae and went in but before we went in to Orakei marae Whaea Celeste did a karanga for us and about 10 kids did a powhiri to welcome us onto the marae. I felt special because our whole senior syndicate got to see a marae and got to do a poi dance.

I felt happy about going to a marae it was a cool trip and we had fun.
