In the ancient times before I walked the earth, there was a beautiful pukeko. The pukeko had small feet, was black and blue and the pukeko's beak was red.
The Pukeko loved to eat mosquitoes, duck eggs and frogs. Pukeko always found insects in mangroves or swamplands.
Pukeko had one problem and that was that his feet were too small. One day Pukeko's feet got stuck in the mud so he called upon Tane Mahuta to help him "Help! Help! I'm stuck in the mud!" said Pukeko
Tane Mahuta used his powers to get Pukeko out of the mud. Tane Mahuta ordered the mangroves to sink down into the mud and grow onto Pukeko's tiny feet. Pukeko's feet grew bigger and bigger. Finally Pukeko got his feet out of the mud. He gave Tane Mahuta a really big thank you.
...And thats how pukeko got big feet.
