How the Pukeko got Big Feet!

Long ago before our ancestors walked the earth there happened to be a baby pukeko. One day the baby pukeko was playing around in the forest then he got hungry. He heard his favourite food mosquito so he ran after it.
All of a sudden he had a problem. He got stuck in quick sand and called for help. The baby pukeko closed his eyes and called out to Tane Mahuta to help him get out. Tane mahuta grew the baby pukeko's feet and the baby pukeko got out of the quick sand and said happily "I'm free!" He ran after the mosquito and caught the mosquito just in time to eat it.
Pukeko lived happily ever after and never got stuck in quicksand ever again!
...And thats how the baby pukeko got big feet...they are from Tane Mahuta.
The end

I love pukeko, they are my favourite birds - I think it is because they do look a bit goofy with their big feet and now I know why they have them!
