I hear crackling noises as the flames engulf whole trees. The smoke from the burning cars fills my nose with a powerful smell of burning petrol and my throat feels dry and sore. I feel the heat growing extremely hot around me as if I am being cooked in a huge oven.
I look around and see houses burnt to the ground and people running for their lives. Suddenly a terrified dog rushes from a burning house, howling as it’s feet touch the burning ground. Around me is total devastation with smouldering trees and blackened ash floating in the air, covering everything in a thick, black layer like a blanket.
My eyes are stinging from the smoke and tears are running down my cheeks. It is hard for me to see where I am going and I wonder if I will escape from this fire. A sound fills the air… I know that sound, it’s a fire engine. I stagger towards the sound and suddenly feel strong arms around me as a fire fighter lifts and carries me to safety.
